Coconut Grove Residence
Overview
Interior renovation of a two-story Coconut Grove home — new kitchen with open-plan dining and living areas, redesigned entry, and custom millwork and detailing throughout.
Focus
Transform a tight, generic interior into an open, expressive home with strong natural light, confident design, and a clear point of view — organized around a sculptural stair at its center.
Result
A bright, contemporary home with connected living areas, a sculptural stair as its organizing centerpiece, and a warm material palette that feels both modern and livable.
Before the Renovation
The Coconut Grove home had a functional footprint but an interior that felt closed off — small, separate rooms that limited natural light and flow. The finishes were uniform and the home had no real design identity. The renovation began by opening everything up and building something new from a clear point of view.
Living Areas
The entire first floor was opened into one continuous kitchen, dining, and living environment — unified by large-format flooring, consistent ceiling treatments, and custom wood columns and slatted walls that define zones without closing them off. In the entry, the redesigned stair became the home's defining feature — a sculptural anchor for the entry and the vertical heart of the house. Natural wood slat walls provide a backdrop for the owners' art collection and tie the entry directly to the living area.
